StudioSysAdmins is a social networking community dedicated to improving infrastructure, workflows and support across the Entertainment/Digital Content Creation Industry. An expanding community with one common site that joins Systems Administrators, Technical Directors, Pipeline Developers, Consultants, Hardware/Software Support Engineers and Hardware/Software Vendors and Resellers (VARs) that currently work and/or in some way support production and post-production studios in the areas of  animation, visual-fx, film, and games.

Our goal is to enable the sharing of all non-proprietary information among all of our Members and to maintain open discussions between studios, vendors and VARs to look at ways that standards can be set in order to help improve support for the installation, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of hardware, software and operating systems.

Currently, we hold regular meetings In Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver that are hosted by one of our Members studios and/or sponsored by one or more of our supporting member Companies to present and/or discuss ongoing issues/concerns, new/future technologies, as well as social conversation.

StudioSysAdmins currently has 552 registered Members which represent 311 different Companies.

An important thing to note is that 193 of these Companies are Production Studios.

The next StudioSysAdmins meeting for the Toronto chapter sponsored by ESI Technologies with a presentation from Brocade Communications will be held on Thursday January 28th, 2010.

Brocade will present an introduction to next generation data centre solutions and standards including FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet), CEE (Converged Enhanced Ethernet), 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet, TRILL (Transparent Interconnect of Lots of Links), PoE+, and EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet), in addition to a summary of Brocade IP product offerings and differentiators.

The next StudioSysAdmins meeting for the Vancouver chapter will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009.

Please join us for our second StudioSysAdmins meeting in the Vancouver area which is graciously being sponsored by Seven Group.   The main topic of this meeting will be about High Density Computing with speakers from SGI/Rackable who will describe the solutions that they have helped design for clients such as Google and YouTube as well as introduce us to their latest technology UltraViolet.

At the Supercomputing 2009 show (November 16th), SGI unveiled what officials are calling the fastest and most scalable shared-memory system. Powered by Intel's upcoming "Nehalem EX" Xeon processors, the Altix UV can scale from 32 to 2,048 processing cores and can support up to 16 terabytes of shared memory in a single image, all within four server racks.

The next StudioSysAdmins meeting for the Toronto chapter will be held on Thursday November 12th, 2009.

It has been over a year since the first meeting in Toronto which started it all.  We would like to have a brief update on what people think of the group so far and the direction/goals you would like to see for the future. We will also be joined by David DeCastro (presenting), Mike Glover and Dan Hobson from IBM who will be giving us a presentation on cost,  space and power savings with their new IBM iDataplex offering, as well as, the new HS22 Blade.
