StudioSysAdmins Update for October 2012

StudioSysAdmins has been planning some changes as some of you are already aware. We continue to work on improving the website and community as well as extend our reach.

We might be doing some marketing in the near future to meet our recruitment goals, if you have any nice/interesting quotes we could use in our campaigns, please send an e-mail to info@studiosysadmins.com.

Also, if you have any ideas and/or feedback, on the community itself or the website, we are always interested to hear from you.

With the launch of the new website (January 1st, 2013) we are hoping to drive more traffic to the site and have plans for a smartphone app for Android, Blackberry, and iOS to all people to post questions and access information from the site more efficiently. See the Jobs section below to help us find someone to assist in this effort.

Local Area Meetings

• Vancouver just had a meeting last week.
• Toronto is having a meeting next week.
• London, Montreal, New York, and Sydney to have meeting by year end (look for announcements soon).
• We will have our fist meeting in Paris by year end.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist in running local area meetings in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Jobs

We continue to get job postings from various production studios, vendors and resellers. We will be working on that section for the new website.

We have also posted a contract position for a Web Application Developer for the StudioSysAdmins website to help by updating and adding new features to benefit the community.

Contests

We launched our first contest be run for the entire month of November to design the new StudioSysAdmins Logo!

We are hoping for a lot of participation and your chance to win a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in time for Christmas.

Membership

We still get (on average) 1 member joining the community every day. We are currently at 1715 members.

We can always use your help to spread the word and get new members (and companies) to join the group.

StudioSysAdmins has turned 4!

Happy Birthday!

This week StudioSysAdmins had it's 4th Anniversary.  We continue to grow at a rapid rate with 1686 members to date. We have recently broken up the company list into several new categories we currently have members representing 422 Prodution Studios, 39 Schools/Training Facilities, 10 Research/Visualization Labs, 5 Communitues, 2 Conferences, 62 Consultants, 67 Resellers, 26 Service Providers, and 157 Vendors! That brings a total of 790 companies with offices in 98 major cities and 37 countries from around the world. Truly a global community. As always, I encourage you to spread the word so we can grow our reach.

In the past year our mailing list continues to grow with more and more questions and answers every day. A huge thank you to all of our members for their contributions this past year. Keep up the great work! Here is a list of the top 10 contributors for the past year.

As mentioned in a previous update we are making some changes in how the group will work going forward. We are still working on the details so please check regularly for important announcements. One announcement is that we started charging vendor companies for annual subscription fees to help maintain and grow the community even further.

We already have 6 great sponsors that have helped to kick things off. We would like to thank them for helping support our community and allowing us to reach the next level, expand our group, hold more meetings and participate at more events.

We are getting ready to hire some full-time staff to help get new features and changes to our web site as well as help coordinate meetings, events and keep the website content up-to-date.  We are very excited about these changes.

If you have been on our website recently you will notice we are making a few changes already. We are working on a new website that will be much faster, easier to navigate and full of new features - including a smart phone application! I urge everyone to send me updated companies logos so we can get them ready for the new launch - .EPS format is prefferred.

StudioSysAdmins will be having it's 4th anniversary this coming September. With this, we will be making some exciting changes to the website and how our community is run.

Before you read the next paragraph - don't panic! This is for vendors only!

Starting September 1st, 2012 we will be charging vendors to advertise on the site. What does this mean? All vendor companies (individual memership will remain free) that do pay a yearly subscription fee will no longer have thier logo and/or products on the web site. Money collected from subscriptions will be used to run StudioSysAdmins.  Pay for full time staff, web-site development, tradeshows, and local area meetings. With subscriptions, we are looking forward to a lot of new features on the site and help bring the community even closer together. More meetings and more participation at trade shows.

We are also in the middle of a large recruiting campaign to boost our membership.  If you have friends and/or collegues that would benefit from our community, don't forget to ask them to join.
