Senior Systems Administrator


Summary:

The position requires vision and hands on skills to support the projects of Intelligent Creatures.  The Senior Systems Administrator is reponsible for maintaining all aspects of the systems infrastructure as well as plan and implement any infrastructure improvements.  This is a position that requires close collaboration with technical staff, software engineers, and production users to best align technical solutions with production schedules and creative needs.


Qualifications:

* Minimum of 5 years in an IS/IT support position
* Prefer 3+ years production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or games.
* Very strong Linux administration skills necessary
* Knowledge of programming with scripting languages like Bash or Python
* Some experience with Windows and MacOS X and cross-platform integration
* Ability to prioritize, respond, and follow through on multiple requests in a dynamic work environment
* Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
* Some general knowledge of applications like Maya, Houdini, Nuke and their scripting APIs an asset.
* Experience working with VMWare or other virtualization platforms
* Excellent oral and written communications skills
* Undergraduate degree or a diploma in Computing Science, or related disciplines an asset.


Responsibilities:

    * Resolve support requests and perform infrastructure maintenance:
          o Install, upgrade, and maintain hardware, software, and peripherals.
          o Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, both workstation and server.
          o Troubleshoot network and remote access connectivity problems.
          o Perform general system maintenance and support.
    * Work independently to service and support linux servers and clients.
    * Maintain DNS, NFS, DHCP, Samba, printing, mail, web and FTP services.
    * Maintain Hardware/Software/License inventory.
    * Monitor System activity and logs.
    * Hardware maintenance and service.
    * Software installation/upgrade/maintenance

* Oversee and perform general system maintenance, e.g., upgrades, optimization, etc. for storage servers

    * Monitor network activity and load, determine bottlenecks and implement solutions.
    * Researching and advising on system and software purchase decisions.
    * Serve as troubleshooter and escalation point for end-user support within our cross-platform environment
    * Help define and implement policies and procedures for Linux use and administration, including global filesystem namespace
    * Data management including archiving, backup and distribution.
    * Development of automated data maintenance tools.
    * Managing render farm nodes.
    * Produce documentation for administration and end-users
    * Train end-users as needed.
    * Provide technical leadership and/or participate in major systems projects
    * Assist other administrators in maintaining standard software configurations.
    * Assist other staff as needed.
