Burrows; one of the UK's leading through-the-line Creative Marketing Communications companies, an integral part of the Y&R / Wunderman worldwide partnership and a WPP Company, are currently seeking an experienced CGI Technical Director to join our award winning & world renowned Essex based CGI Studio. ‘Burrows CGI’ - has been the subject of many magazine articles both in Europe & the US, because we are at the cutting edge of 3D technical animation.

With an impressive client list and a track record of success spanning more than thirty-five years, Burrows 3D animation studio, provides production driven technical solutions  and efficient ways of creating our work to our CGI team. The successful candidate will have strong practical experience & theoretical knowledge of both Computer Science & related 2D/3D disciplines. You will be a driven, team orientated and a customer focused professional.  We are looking for a technical artist who has a wide range of expertise across software, systems & scripting. Ideally you will have experience or / exposure to the following technologies: (please see the Person Specification & Core Competencies document for full details).

* solid understanding of CG / VFX pipelines,

* Python,

* MAXScript,

* JavaScript

Any of the following would be highly advantageous: Troubleshooting 2D, 3D & CGI based software, a keen interest in Automotive Visualisation, 3D, web development, internet & mobile engineering knowledge in this field.

This role may require overtime (including weekends) and occasional travel, sometimes at short notice to meet deadlines. Our offices are 23 minutes by rail from Liverpool Street, situated next to Shenfield railway station. Job title: CGI Technical Director  Responsible to: CGI Creative Director

Department: CGI Studio     Reporting to: Digital Systems Manager

Job purpose:  To provide production driven technical solutions to the CGI Studio. To provide Artistic technological support and scripting to members of the CGI team. Produce stills, animation and technical assets and develop new and efficient ways of creating our work. Assist in the development of innovative solutions as part of the CGI Studio growth.

Key accountabilities:

To provide artistic technological support and scripting to members of the CGI studio. This includes the operating system, 2D/3D software, plug-ins, scripts as well as other 3rd party technologies using multiple programming languages.

Take ownership and maintain any software, scripts developed and their corresponding source code repositories and documentation/wiki, providing training to artists where necessary.
 
To keep up to date on new research and industry developments, and maintain knowledge in relevant fields and contribute regularly to the CGI Studio collective learning within the team environment.
 
To work within the IT procedures for development, adhering to our ISO procedures.
 
To render & data wrangle jobs in progress via the in-house render management software, providing expertise where necessary.
 
Ensure documentation, operation manuals, policies, wiki knowledge base is kept up to date.
 
To be able to produce stills and animations to keep up to date on the artists needs and future development requirements and to enhance and make our resource more efficient.
 
Carry out any reasonable duties as identified by your line manager.

Essential Skills:

Expert with:
Scripting Languages; cmd line, Python, vbScript, JavaScript, MAXScript
Creative / artist based experience in relevant field. (portfolio required)
CGI Artist level / Ability to produce stills / animations or technical showreel
Pragmatic approach to solving complex programming/production issues
Solid understanding of a CG pipeline
Programming Languages; c#, vb.Net, .Net Framework
Ability to lead in advanced troubleshooting without guidance for 2D / 3D / CGI studio based software

Experience with:
Troubleshooting 2D,3D, CGI based software

Qualification:
Undergraduate/Postgraduate degree or diploma in Computing Science, or related 2D/3D discipline.

Experience in a multimedia / digital agency environment
Any Microsoft based qualifications

Colour Science Theory and implementation
Augmented Reality experience
Mobile platform computing / Android / IOS
