This position is required to work overnight in the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

Rocket Science is an Emmy nominated boutique visual effects studio collaborating with filmmakers to create stunning visual imagery utilizing artistry, science and technology. Located in Toronto, Canada, notable credits include Eric Kripke’s Emmy nominated superhero series THE BOYS (Amazon), the epic video game adaptation HALO (Paramount +), Steve Blackman’s UMBRELLA ACADEMY (Netflix), and features such as Neil Jordan’s GRETA (Sidney Kimmel) and David Cronenberg’s feature CRIMES OF THE FUTURE.

RSVFX is currently in production on Tim Burton’s WEDNESDAY (Netflix), Mike Flanagan’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptation FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (Netflix), Rian Johnson’s POKER FACE and Jean-Francois Richet’s THE PLANE (Lionsgate).

Job Description:

  • Ensuring overall render farm performance and efficiency, maximizing render farm’s resources
  • Working closely with all other departments to keep on schedule
  • Recording documentation and information accurately while producing reports
  • Identifying potential issues and participates in problem solving and tool building activities, making required corrections
  • Researching, testing and evaluating various software to enhance work productivity 
  • Render Wrangling is typically required into the evenings and on weekends depending on project demands. Flexible working hours is required for this position.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Render Wrangler role
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Computer animation and/or Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
  • Candidates with a background in Visual Effects, Animation TV or post-production pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of PC hardware with a focus on visual/media systems
  • Experience in relevant software packages including Maya, Houdini, Nuke, VRay, Redshift, Arnold and other industry-specific software
  • Experience with render farm management systems such as Deadline Monitor
  • Experience in Windows, Mac and Linux platforms and production management systems like Shotgun
  • Experience in scripting such as Python is beneficial
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take direction, work independently, multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and deliver tasks under tight deadlines
  • Eligible to work in Canada
