Sinking Ship is looking for a Senior Level Unreal Technical Director to join our growing crew. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is an Unreal Wizard and has a passion for making high quality television. Not only will you get to help us bring aliens and crazy creatures to life you will be part of a crew that always strives to push the envelope on the limits on the quality of the shows we produce.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the UE pipeline development for episodic animation
  • Collaborate with traditional VFX teams to develop a new pipeline using UE
  • Work closely with cross-departmental teams and drive the company’s technical UE skills
  • Provide technical support to artists in your team
  • Optimize performance of in-engine assets, textures, lighting, memory usage
  • Ensure requests for new tools and workflows align with the company’s development strategy, technology roadmap, and individual project or show requirements
  • Write and maintain clear, accurate, and concise documentation

Who are you?

  • You have technical knowledge of the UE platform, API, and Realtime workflow
  • You are a team player with excellent communication skills
  • You are open to innovation and learning new tools and processes
  • You have excellent time-management and task-prioritizing skills
  • You can take a lead role in creating a sequence from blocking to final delivery
  • You can lead a team working with a real-time engine in a production environment
  • You have 3-5 years of experience with UE development in a production environment

Technical Qualifications

  • Solid experience in Python, PyQt, and PySide required
  • Experience working with UE blueprints and solid working knowledge of C++
  • A thorough understanding of real-time rendering workflows
  • Proficient with the UE Sequencer
  • Experience with UE tools and workflow (e.g. the Material Editor, lighting and FX)
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git, Perforce

Nice to Have

  • Experience with production tracking applications such as Shotgun, ftrack, NIM, as well as developing tools for communication between those applications and various DCCs such as Unreal (experience with Shotgun API and Shotgun Toolkit is a plus)
  • Experience with Virtual Production
  • Experience with common production frameworks such as OpenGL, SQLAlchemy
  • Experience with Alembic, virtualenv, GPU processing  
  • Working knowledge of CSS, HTML, Javascript, and web application development
  • Experience in developing tools for DCCs such Maya, Nuke, Mari is a plus
  • Knowledge of real-world cameras, and their relation to the virtual camera
  • Degree in Computer Science or Software Development
  • Experience working on episodic animation and feature film pipelines is a big plus
