Systems /Server Administrator


Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software related to Technicolor Toronto’s post-production infrastructure.  

Responsible for but not limited to the configuration, preventive and corrective maintenance of all computer-based production equipment in addition to Media Storage, File delivery, Transcode and other video systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve support requests and perform infrastructure maintenance.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems. Perform in-depth system maintenance and support. Troubleshoot network and remote access connectivity problems.
  • Write engineering SOP’s pertaining to the various operations of computer systems.
  • Provide support to all end-users as needed.
  • Administer servers and network services: AD, DNS, DHCP
  • Analyze and tune systems for performance, throughput, resource utilization, high availability, and scalability
  • Maintain standard software configurations.
  • Coordinate system back-ups.
  • Provide input on equipment and software purchases. Maintain an inventory of current and expired software including a log showing the latest versions of software running on computers under our support.
  • Evaluate new technology and make recommendations regarding equipment selection, software selection and testing with the Operations department.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and support network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls).


Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Systems or comparable professional experience
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a professional system engineering environment
  • Organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow through on support requests in a timely manner, escalating to other members of the team when appropriate.
  • Ability to prioritize and address multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work independently and with other members of a team.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer repair and system configuration skills or related experience.
  • Server administration skills with working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server and Max OS X Server. Experience troubleshooting Mac and PC software and hardware problems, including Mac OS X, WinXP, Windows Server 2008/12, Windows 7/8, Linux, applications, drivers, workstations, servers, drives, cards, and other peripherals.
  • Experience with the commercial software used in post-production and visual effects, Resolve, Maya, Nuke, Autodesk Flame, Lustre.
  • Knowledge of SD and HD digital Video standards, as well as Digital Audio standards.
