Senior System Administrator - Job Description

Toonbox is looking for a Senior System Administrator to join our IT department. The senior system administrator is to report to the Head of IT. You’ll be responsible for helping to manage our servers and network infrastructure.

Senior System Administrator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Set up Linux servers and help with kickstart of linux workstations, as our primary platform is linux.
  • Provide investigation and recommendation for systems requirements
  • Configuring, planning, implementation of Internal systems/network
  • Performance tuning and monitoring , recommend redesign / re-configuration for improvement
  • Install commercial and open source applications
  • Develop tools, procedures for operations and/or to assist work
  • Writing scripts to help with systems work or roll-outs
  • Update documentation
  • Basic database skills
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting technical issues and recovery procedures
  • Working together with Production Technology and Production Management to provide solutions involving IT resources
  • Working with vendors and external consultants
  • Help supervising juniors / mentoring the team
  • To be successful in this role, you should have excellent troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience with various operating systems, primarily linux.
  • Ultimately, you will help to ensure our software, hardware, servers and networks run smoothly

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a Senior System Administrator
  • In depth knowledge of Redhat based linux distros (CentOS etc)
  • Good knowledge of at least one shell scripting (bash, csh etc)
  • Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networks
  • Knowledge of system security techniques
  • Good problem-solving and communication and skills
  • Team management abilities
  • BSc in Computer Science or similar field
  • Hands on experience setting up and maintaining Linux based servers, and ideally with HPC / renderfarm servers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all of levels of technology users
  • Experience writing scripts in Python and experience with software development tools, like SVN and Trac
  • Experience setting up Data Center server rooms would be ideal
