Position Overview

The Pipeline Technical Director (TD) contributes to the overall operation and improvement of the studio’s pipeline. This includes engaging in cross-department communication, identifying and providing solutions to critical path issues, and creating documentation. The Pipeline TD develops and maintains software tools, provides direct support to artists, ensures artist efficiency and is responsible for general troubleshooting of the studio’s pipeline.

The Pipeline TD receives day-to-day direction and priorities from the CG Supervisor and reports to and partners with the Director of Technology to support studio’s special projects and initiatives.

Experience Requirements

Required Education / Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Previous experience in Visual Effects or related industry

  • Thorough understanding of the VFX Pipeline

  • Proficiency in Python, PyMEL, PySide, PyQt, C++

  • Working knowledge / understanding with VFX applications (e.g. Maya, Nuke, Unreal Engine, Substance, Houdini, ZBrush, Deadline)

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with pipeline development in a fast-paced, feature film visual effects production environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and demands.

  • Detail-oriented and strong, self-sufficient troubleshooter


Desired Skills & Experience

  • Thorough understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting to modeling and texturing, animation, rendering and compositing

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge / understanding of Shotgun

  • Experience with package configuration systems (e.g. Rez)

  • General knowledge of networking and performance issues
  • General knowledge of network storage protocols (e.g. SMB, NFS)
