Position Overview

The Pipeline Technical Director is responsible for troubleshooting pipeline/toolset issues. Help manage change and work with artists to help solve problems and participate in the evolution of the studio toolset and workflow relating to the production pipeline to introduce stability and efficiencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support/troubleshoot artists issues with production task (assets/shots/tools/etc)
  • Establish workflow, procedures and strategies across multiple disciplines throughout the entire studio pipeline to achieve the following:

-Maximize efficiency and productivity

-Maintain continuity between productions

-Meet quality, efficiency, and creative goals of all projects

  • Contribute to the design and development in all areas of the studio’s production pipeline
  • Collaborate with production management to establish methodologies and workflow to meet the requirements and goals of each production
  • Oversees the design, development, maintenance and optimization of toolsets used by the artists in all departments in collaboration with show leads and Technology Departments.
  • Establish clear methods for testing and quality control of all tool development
  • Establish proactive assessments and audits of workflow and toolset usage, being mindful of global technology directives as established by the VP of Technology and Director of Production Engineering
  • Work with all disciplines to develop best practices for the studio’s inter-departmental workflow
  • Help establish standards, including coding standards, tools or platforms.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 3+ years of CG experience
  • Understanding of a large software systems environment
  • Completed post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with and proven working knowledge of most of the following:

-Maya, Harmony, Houdini

-Render software like Arnold

-Render queue supervisor software like Qube

-Composting software like Fusion

-Windows, Linux and OSX desktop/server environments

-Production tracking software like Shotgun, fTrack

  • Various coding technologies, including Python, PyQt, Mel, JavaScript, IDEs and csh/bash
  • Web development technologies, including Django, Mithril, HTML5, CSS, SQL databases
  • Nice to have C/C++ or other object-oriented programming language
  • GIT, Subversion, CVS, or other revision control systems
  • Strong communication and intra and inter department teamwork skills
  • Superior time-management and prioritization skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
