ROLE SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Digital Media Engineer oversees the processing of digital audio/visual and photographic assets. This position designs and implements workflows for the creation, tracking, archiving and distribution of these digital assets. The Engineer will also provide tier two technical support for all workflows in the Media Operations ecosystem.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build, test, and deploy workflows that execute the creation, reuse, delivery and management of digital media assets for use by all departments.
  • Sets configurations in software and hardware to execute these workflows.
  • Creates documentation for all created workflows.
  • Periodically reviews existing workflows to improve or optimize.
  • Serve as Tier two support, provide troubleshooting and maintenance for:
  1. Levels Beyond – Reach Engine media asset management system
  2. Telestream – Vantage video processing platform
  3. Aurora – file-based QC software or equivalent
  4. CaptionMaker – Caption creation and conversion application
  5. Quantum StorNext – Shared storage system.
  6. Adobe Creative Suite apps – primarily Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • Pursue solutions with support vendors or manufacturers as needed.
  • Supports internal front-line support personnel as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and identifies issues such that end-users are not affected.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience managing digital assets in a post-production environment.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience creating workflows with Telestream transcoding equipment, or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience with XML document creation. Thorough understanding of namespaces, schemas, elements, and attributes.
  • Thorough understanding of taxonomy as it relates to digital asset management. Understands the appropriate use of metadata and value it provides when building systems automation.
  • Experience working with a programming or scripting technology (PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, Python, etc.).
  • Familiarity with basic RESTful APIs that facilitate communication between systems.
  • Strong technical documentation skills. Ability to present technical ideas in a manner that non-technical personnel can easily understand.
  • Experience with the hardware and applications noted in essential functions
  • Experience preparing media files for distribution to content distribution platforms, such as Netflix, iTunes, CableLabs, etc..
  • Experience with Windows, Mac OS X, Windows Server, and Linux (CentOS or RHEL) computer operating systems.
  • Experience with video/audio codecs and file wrappers. Understands appropriate usage for each.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite Applications.
  • Experience with baseband video devices such as cameras and professional tape-decks. SDI Signal Routing and RS-422 familiarity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions
  • Ability to organize and schedule work effectively
  • Experience working with a ticketing system and taking meaningful action in the system to ensuring the team and customers are aware of ticket status.
  • Experience with Vantage Post-Producer
  • Experience working with Caption documents such as SCC, TTML, MCC, etc…
  • Experience administering shared storage systems.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP and fibre-channel networking.
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism and work collaboratively with mentors to continually improve the quality workflows and automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills; positive attitude
  • Prior cable network or entertainment experience is helpful
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
