Job Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator assists the Director of Technology in the research, planning, and design of The Whitehouse Post’s global technical infrastructure.  The administrator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the technical infrastructure, ensuring that it meets or exceeds user needs.  The administrator also assists the Technical Managers with any support they may need to keep the Whitehouse video infrastructure running properly.

The administrator understands the role of each employee at the Whitehouse and implements technical solutions as needed to help each employee succeed. The administrator also stays updated on emerging technologies and industry best practices and implements them as they apply to Whitehouse.

 

Typical Duties

• Maintain Fortinet firewalls which includes configuring static IP mapping, site to site VPNs, QOS, and         security policies.

• Maintain and configure switches from various vendors which can include setting up VLANs and trunk  ports.

• Maintain and support the Accounting department which includes Windows Server, MSSQL Server, and  Windows workstations.

• Maintain remote VPN access for employees with varying levels of access levels.

• Maintain and support our virtual servers which includes VMWare ESXi and Hyper-v.

• Maintain and support our email system which includes Exchange 2013 and Linux based spam filters.

• Maintain and support our Windows, MacOS, and Linux servers which can include Active Directory, MySQL, Apache, DNS, DHCP, Samba, NFS, and ZFS.

• Maintain the monitoring and reporting systems which include Nagios, Cacti, Observium, Logstash, Kibana, and elastic search.

• Maintain and support our wireless hardware which include Ubiquiti devices.

• Maintain and support end users workstations and software installs.

• Develop scripts and tools to help with common tasks.

• Document internal systems and procedures on internal wiki.

• Work with external vendors as needed to support other items like the phone or security systems.

• Travel to each of our global offices to assist in new implementations or other support areas.

 

Required Skills

• Active Directory, DNS, SMTP, DHCP, FTP, WDS/MDT.

• VMware and Hyper-V virtualization.

• Solid knowledge of popular switching and routing protocols with the ability to quickly learn different vendor specific configuration syntax.

• Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

• Scripting in Powershell, bash, and Python is preferred.

• Basic abilities with writing SQL queries, HTML, CSS, and PHP.

• Ability to effectively communicate to non-technical people orally or through email.

• Ability to quickly learn and implement new pieces of tech.
