Position Overview: 

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Systems Administrator to work with the Rose Center Engineering staff to maintain production systems and pipelines, systems related to the Hayden Planetarium digital dome, and audio video and interactive systems throughout the museum. Duties will include the daily preparation of the multi-channel dailies systems, emergency support and repairs as needed on playback systems, and support for a render farm, storage, and servers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Linux operating systems, including Shell scripting skills.                                                                                   
  • Experience with administration and support in the context of science based visualization, media production, or video production.         
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends on scheduled rotation. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of 3D applications, hardware and software rendering pipelines, and SAN implementations helpful.                                     
  • Knowledge of video codecs and encoding a plus.                                                                                                                               
  • Bachelor’s Degree.

This is a contract position lasting roughly 15 months.
