The Systems Technology team provides a wide range of services in our studio, including media systems, data center operations, networking, large compute and storage farms, directory and communication services, backups, databases, operating systems, mobile computing and technical support. Reporting directly to the Director of Technology at Disneytoon Studios, the Systems Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of the studio’s systems architecture, design, and support.


  • Establish and maintain a long term information systems vision for the studio, including phased recapitalization, evaluation of emerging technologies, and information security that meet the Studio’s vision and long term objectives
  • Directly supervise systems engineers, technical support engineers, and media engineers with organizing, prioritizing and trouble-shooting projects as well as developing and coaching team members to meet their professional career goals
  • Create project plans that include overall vision, goals, architecture diagrams, cost-benefit analysis, acceptance testing, rollout strategy and deployment support
  • Effectively communicate team project status to other parts of technology and production
  • Collaborate with Production and Software Developers to map out and optimize workflows and tool integration
  • Present updates on projects to leadership and executive stakeholders
  • Conduct product definition strategy sessions, story mapping, and other research forums to gather product requirements from key stakeholders
  • Identify areas of improvement and present those opportunities to key stakeholders
  • Keep overall studio infrastructure current and efficient by being aware of industry trends
  • Assist with the coding of our projects as needed
  • Promote the Agile development methodologies with the Systems team

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, Systems Architect, or relevant experience
  • 3+ years experience managing technical professionals
  • Proven experience demonstrating superior critical thinking skills, and experience in strategic planning and execution of technology architecture roadmaps
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the day-to-day tasks of diverse teams, while effectively influencing senior management on key decisions and direction
  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team to produce quality work in the development of solutions
  • Demonstrate ability to connect and influence others in order to achieve organizational priorities
  • Proven ability to break down requirements from customers into tangible needs
  • Proven ability to architect, then manage, solutions through delivery
  • Excellent communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups
  • Experience in the Visual Effects, Animation, or media and entertainment industries a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux and OSX operating systems
  • In-depth knowledge of third party storage solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of information security best practices
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments, or render farms
  • Experience with collaborative media environments, video conference, multi-site media-review systems, or screening rooms a plus

Required Education

BS degree in Computer Science, IT or IS Management, or equivalent
