Framestore are opening a new Integrated Advertising office in Chicago in Spring 2017, and we are looking for a Linux friendly Systems Engineer who is comfortable with modern file based commercials workflows and standard Linux System Administration tasks to join our global technology team. 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to respond promptly and directly to problems in high pressure client attended sessions and resolve issues in a calm and efficient manner. They will also work closely with our larger WW engineering organization to continue to define and implement best practices.

Our Integrated Advertising business is evolving and offers many challenging engineering opportunities as our high creative standards, high resolutions, increased frame-rates and tight schedules place ever more demanding pressure on infrastructure. We are a merit-based organisation and place a high value on both individual initiative and group effort. And as patch cables and video matrixes become shell scripts and code we are looking for someone who will embrace these challenges with discipline, curiosity and enthusiasm.

Essential requirements include strong communications skills, attention to detail, a commitment to teamwork and a demonstrated ability in self-guided problem solving. An in-depth knowledge of commercials post-production technology is as valuable as solid Linux skills, a strong work ethic and a passion for high performance computing.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • 5+ years in Commercials environment supporting Flame and/or Baselight
  • 3+ years Linux system administration
  • A thorough grounding in video engineering concepts and techniques
  • A thorough grounding in image file formats
  • Knowledge of conversion and handling of data from digital cinema camera's (RED, Alexa, Phantom, Sony)
  • A working knowledge of scripting languages such as shell, Python and/or Perl
  • A background in high performance storage systems and distributed rendering/computing technologies is desirable
  • Familiarity with software packages Maya, Nuke and Houdini helpful
  • A pragmatic approach to project delivery, training and documentation
  • Proven team player with good analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Sense of humour helpful but not mandatory
