Hello!

As this is my first time doing this, I thought I'd reach out to all of you on best practices for how to install Maya to be used on a farm. I'd rather not have to install Maya to each blade, but if it's better to then so be it.

My first assumption is to just install Maya locally to one blade and then copy over the /usr/autodesk directory to my network share. As this will only be used for rendering, I'm not sure if I need the licensing RPM's included with the tar file. Or I could just rpm --prefix it to the share from the start.

Just looking for the best methodology here, any tips are appreciated!

Cheers,
Mike

Btw. I made this script to extract Maya into self contained structure. It's made for Ubuntu but perhaps also works in other distros. Also a few things in the config file needs to be updated for Maya 2018.

The productinformation.pit file ends up in /var/autodesk somewhere after the adlmreg stuff.

You only need to generate the .pit file which has the information about the serial number registered. And that file is the same for all nodes.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the pointers. The licensing is my biggest concern as I'm not sure how important it is. I know that rendering doesn't use consume an actual license, that's for when using Maya interactively which will not be happening on these blades. Even though it won't be used interactively I will still need to go through the whole ADLM setup?

Cheers,
Mike
