dual link SDI stereo monitoring in Nuke

We are searching for information on previewing Nuke comps in our DI theater, specifically through dual link SDI (one eye per SDI cable). We are versed in stereo, and also experienced in the whole broadcast monitor setup. We currently run Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Monitors and they are straight forward. What I can't find is whether a Kona 3G or 4, or Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Pro will be able to output stereo via 2 SDI ports. I've search high and low, seen plenty of people talking about it but never anything definitive.

If anyone is currently doing this or has seen it, could you please let me know. The Foundry is extremely vague in their response (I can understand why). I'll be happy to clarify anything as well.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late response here.  As the person who is both head of technology but also the vfx supervisor, I can tell you Nuke's Stereo SDI output support is poor at best.  Nuke handles Stereo compositing very well, however, it is the SDI monitor viewing that is under developed.

We tried using Nuke Studio as a potential replacement for Smoke.  We found that Nuke Studio does not support Stereo Left & Stereo Right workflows.  This is the common workflow and our pipeline follows suit.  In order to view Stereo within Nuke Studio, you must use a multi-view EXR or a multi-view Quicktime.  Essentially a single file with both views.  This proved too difficult within our pipeline so we abandoned it in favor of a Smoke & RV combination.  RV handles stereo like a champ.  You can output Left/Right over SDI1/SD2.  RV has many native Stereo tools.  I would recommmend cutting bait and pursuing RV as suggested throughout this thread.  Keep in mind you need RV-SDI for output.  It is a different license than RV.

FWIW, we have successfully output Dual Link Stereo SDI1/SD2 through both Blackmagic & AJA devices using Smoke & RV-SDI.

Page 201 hints that stereo output is possible.

About the only info on AJA outputs. Dual seems possible but this is all without allusion to stereo.

Worth a go.

Yes the RV/Nuke integration package should enable the workflow you're wanting. I've not used it in a few years but last I left off, it's a live link.

Thanks for the response, I'll look into RV. Can you tell me, will RV help me display a live Nuke comp? Perhaps I was incorrect in my thinking, but I thought RV came into play after the render. My hope is I can have the script open, see it on the project, increase the blur a bit then see the results instantly just as quick as they would come up in the Nuke viewer.
