Sounds like something we would throw a small amount of Flash Cache into a two- or possibly four-node ONTAP cluster for. A smaller version of what Rainmaker is using with a few hundred artists and a few thousand cores.  You can google it. There’s a case study and a video online.

need to look into shared storage for around 15 vfx stations and 30 render nodes running Maya/Vray, my old centos storage servers can no longer handle to workload and stress.....

looking at around 40-60TB in storage capacity.

 

The Oracle ZFS looked interesting too but sounds real expensive -
