[OT] Curiosity language

Some of us were talking at the SIGGRAPH meet and greet about the programming language used on Curiosity. Looks like it is C. All 2.5 million lines of it ;) http://compass.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/ws-slides/havelund.pdf Shawn To unsubscribe from the list send a blank e-mail to mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-request@studiosysadmins.com?subject=unsubscribe

Here's another link that might be of interest to some. It talks about the data rates between Earth and Mars: http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/mission/communicationwithearth/data/ Bandwidth beyond Mars gets much more limited. The downlink from New Horizons when it passes Pluto in 2015 will be about 1kbit/s! It will take months to download the images it captures. When I visit my parents and endure their dial-up connection, I like to point out that NASA talks to Mars four times faster than they talk to the Internet! In an attempt to keep this relevant to computer graphics, I'll point out that Jim Blinn's early Jupiter and Saturn flyby animations helped get me interested in this field. And here is JPL's coding standards for C... http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/08/13/jpl-coding-standards-for-c/ Pretty interesting. shawn On Sat, Aug 11, 2012 at 9:16 AM, James W Williams wrote: > On 8/9/12 6:29 PM, Shawn Wallbridge wrote: >> >> Some of us were talking at the SIGGRAPH meet and greet about the >> programming language used on Curiosity.
